D Das Sippi

Dholandas Sipahimalani

D Das Sippi
by Motilal Jotwani

D Das Sippi,
the main partner of Dholandas Sipahimalani,
sees the dark Bombay seascape
float into his eyes, feels it devour
the deeo’s light

In the high-rise building
with no floors, no flats,
he imagines an accident,

tries to recollect
where he lives,
where his roots are,
who his God is.

Surely not Mammon
whom he worships every day.

Translated from the Sindhi by Menka Shivdasani and Anju Makhija
